WA: Hamersley workers stood down for accessing porn emails

Some workers at Rio Tinto's Hamersley Iron operations in Western Australia have beenstood down for receiving and distributing internet pornography.

A Rio Tinto spokesman says the workers will be sacked if they are found to have breachedthe company's email policy prohibiting accessing or forwarding offensive material.

The company has classified the emails in question as seriously offensive material.

The spokesman says there are a number of people who have contravened the policy andinvestigations are continuing.

Those under investigation have been stood down pending the results of the probe, beingundertaken by the company's human resources department.

Comment is being sought from the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union.

Hamersley Iron operates six sites in the Pilbara -- Paraburdoo, Tom Price, Brockman,Channa, Dampier and Yandi.
