NSW: Two officers reinstated over email porn
Two police officers have been reinstated to the New South Wales Police Service despite
sending and receiving pornographic emails on internal computers.
The two officers were among three sacked from the force by Police Commissioner PETER
RYAN after an internal investigation into abuse of the police email system.
One officer's believed to have since left the force, while the two other officers,
PAUL BURROWS and RICK GIARDINI had jointly pursued an unfair dismissal case.
On Friday, the state Industrial Relations Commission ordered they be reinstated.
In his decision, Justice ROGER BOLAND says he found the emails offensive and vulgar
-- but the removal of the officers had been flawed and unjust.
An internal police investigation had found more than 470 officers -- of ranks up to
and including inspector -- were detected receiving or sending pornographic material over
the police memo system.
Justice BOLAND found there had been marked inconsistency and unfairness in the treatment
of officers GIARDINI and BURROWS, and other officers uncovered by the internal inquiry.
