Christof Perick, familiar to Chicagoans as conductor of LyricOpera's "The Flying Dutchman" in 1984 and last season's "Parsifal,"has been named music director and conductor of the Orchestra ofIllinois.
Linda G. Moore, the orchestra's executive director, announcedthe appointment of the German-born Perick yesterday. The four-yearappointment will begin next season, with Perick conducting the Apriland May, 1988, concerts as Orchestra of Illinois' musicdirector-designate. He will conduct a full schedule - four of theorchestra's five programs - in 1988-89.
