NSW: Debnam says he believes he could work with police chief
SYDNEY, Aug 8 AAP - NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam believes he could work with
Police Commissioner Ken Moroney in government, despite having accused him of behaving
like a clown.
But Mr Debnam says the police chief would first have to agree to ending a politically
correct approach to policing.
Mr Debnam has criticised Mr Moroney and Police Minister Carl Scully over their handling
of sexual misconduct and alcohol related problems at the Goulburn police college.
Mr Debnam today said Mr Moroney and Mr Scully had been acting like there were no problems
at the college.
"We have had a commissioner and a minister behaving like clowns, pretending there is
no problem," he told reporters.
"Well there is a problem with the transparency and accountability."
Mr Debnam said he would be happy for Mr Moroney, whose contract expires next year,
to continue in his position provided he was willing to implement a coalition government's
policies and agenda.
"I can work with Ken Moroney or any other chief executive who actually wants to work
with us," he said.
"New strategies: getting rid of the softly, softly, politically correct approach, introducing
transparency and accountability."
